It would seem to me that you'd want to make an example of this person so that others think twice. I know it sounds harsh and you've been up to your ears in legal BS this year, but this woman really did something awful to the rescue and, more importantly, Minnie. At minimum, I'm with English Rider. These two irresponsible meanies should pony up and good!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362301983183604045.post-17382480569441848642011-09-22T20:31:42.759-04:002011-09-22T20:31:42.759-04:00hayle - I follow up TWICE a year, EVERY year and h...hayle - I follow up TWICE a year, EVERY year and have a data base to show the last time I spoke to / heard from adopter. Remember I did follow up with the owner and SHE LIED!

And keep in mind that micro chips are usually registered to the owner not the rescue so the owner would have been contacted and I would have never been the wiser.Dog Rescuerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15825035993244876264noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362301983183604045.post-78420288333000282282011-09-22T20:23:46.685-04:002011-09-22T20:23:46.685-04:00This dog was lucky you found/noticed and followed ...This dog was lucky you found/noticed and followed up on your hunch that this was your rescued dog. You probably saved the dogs life! Maybe it might be a good idea to followup once or twice a year on your adopted/rehomed dogs with the owners and if no response, check with rescues and pounds if your dogs are there (they should be microchipped I assume).hayleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362301983183604045.post-29491250635985285762011-09-22T20:20:19.780-04:002011-09-22T20:20:19.780-04:00I adopted two dogs separately from owners who coul...I adopted two dogs separately from owners who could no longer keep them. I offered to keep in touch by email and either could visit if they wished. Guess what- neither party kept up contact once the dogs were sold to me. Yes, there were rehomed and wanted a fee (usually higher but they settled when in a bind). It takes a responsible person who will wonder, care, contact a person or a rescue about the welfare of a dog. This seems the norm. People are usually trying to sell/rehome and get desparate when deadlines come. For this reason, I was able to get two purebred dogs for under $125 each. Im a lucky to have them. While your rescue cares for the welfare of the dogs adopted, you will find that owners will not live up to their contract if it is not in their best interest. Only a few care enough to follow up on their dog rehoming.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362301983183604045.post-47358227320677611832011-09-22T13:11:38.227-04:002011-09-22T13:11:38.227-04:00I'd certainly be on the war-path after a story...I'd certainly be on the war-path after a story like this. Find a way to guilt trip all parties into donating serious funds to compensate so that at least that helps your rescue. I know that your contract says to return the dog to you if unable to provide proper care for the animal and absolutely cannot re-home the animal for any reason. I cannot believe this young girl would do that. Thank goodness you recognized her and got her back. You did not fail this dog, the lady that adopted her did!Shelly Hallnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362301983183604045.post-83382282675862990602011-09-21T15:40:33.231-04:002011-09-21T15:40:33.231-04:00I have worked with two adopters to further re-home...I have worked with two adopters to further re-home dogs adopted from me. Both times, they came to me first. However, I am not as diligent in keeping up with my dogs as you so some may have moved on or up without my knowledge. One family from whom I never heard came back to adopt a puppy, bringing the gorgeous (now rather fluffy) Beagle they adopted 5 years ago. So hard once we send them out into the world and alleged forever families.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17445732008559186410noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1362301983183604045.post-42209698982613646032011-09-21T13:07:20.412-04:002011-09-21T13:07:20.412-04:00I can't imagine how you are feeling right now....I can't imagine how you are feeling right now.
