I am a warrior

I am a warrior.
Not because I want to be.
I am a warrior.
Because a human made me.

I have scares to show you for all the times I was in battle.
I didn't want to battle.
I don't like battle.
I did it because a human made me.
It is all I ever knew.

Being a warrior is not a fun life.
It is scary, lonely, depressing life.
It is a life I wish on no one.
Being a warrior is what I had to do to survive.
Many of my friends were not so lucky.
Many of my friends I had to battle.

Today is a different life.
I am still a warrior.
A warrior in a different way.
A warrior in a positive way.

I help to educate others on life as a warrior.
I explain to humans that being a warrior is not a life.
It is something no one should ever be forced to do.
It is cruel.
It is immoral.

Some may call me a survivor.
I just call myself a dog.

Lovey the JRT

Yesterday while I was on the phone with my rescue friend Kathy talking about Sally and Donny and some other rescue stuff, she said Marty keeps calling let me call you back.  A few minutes later Kathy called me back.  Marty was desperate to get a hold of her because a JRT was hit by car in the middle of the night and picked up by the dog warden.  The owners are going through a divorce and don't want the dog.  The dog appears to have a broken leg and is peeing blood.  I said to Kathy "Did you tell her to take the dog to the vet? That dog needs to get to the vet ASAP!"  Honestly I don't remember everything Kathy said to me but I remember her saying "Who is going to pay for it?"  I said "I will, I don't care about the cost just get the dog to the vet"  I think we then talked about which vet.  All I could think about is that baby in pain and I wanted her to the vet ASAP.

Marty took the poor dog to the vet for blood work and x-rays.  The last report I received was she did not have broken leg so that is WONDERFUL!  The bill is only $500 which seriously with some of the dogs I have had this year, that is a drop in the bucket.

What is important is the baby is ok and she will be coming to our rescue soon and will FINALLY be loved and part of a family who actually cares about her.

Adoption Applications

You might think it is easy to adopt out a dog.... I mean you just have to find a person that wants the dog, right?! WRONG! You have to have #1. someone who wants the dog #2. will complete the application #3. will pay the adoption #4. be a good pet owner #5. is a good match for the dog #6. have good references and have good history with dogs/animals... because you know the best way to determine if a person is going to be a good pet owner is to look at their past behavior with their other animals.

THE HARDEST part about the application process is when you have to tell someone NO. I just had this happen recently. The women had so so references but the husband, YIKES! Not a snow balls chance in hell would I allow him to pet one of my dogs... ugh! Not good.

I don't want to be one of those rescues that just NEVER responds and I don't want to be one of those rescues that lies and I don't want to just say no. I think as a rescue part of our "job" is to educate. So, I had to email the person... I didn't say your husband is a slim ball but I did point out the importance of spay/neuter, the importance of vaccinations every year, the importance of heartworm test and prevention and the fact that 6 million dogs are KILLED every year because of pet over population and breeding IS NOT A MONEY MAKER!

I was really expecting a NASTY note back but I actually haven't gotten one yet. I am surprised... lol usually I get nasty messages back.. like the crazy lady who breed her English Bull dog b/c the money really helped them while her husband was laid off. UGH!!

Adoptions are WAY down and the last few applications I have had are kind of well... they weren't approved to adopt. I am pretty forgiving to people and I don't paint everyone with the same brush like some rescues... can't tell you how many people have adopted from me b/c other rescues deny them b/c their last dog was hit by a car.... Oh come on there isn't a person out there that hasn't had a dog or cat hit by a car or knows someone that is a great pet owner that has had a dog or cat hit by a car. Sometimes it happens. I am not going to be that judgmental... but these last few applications that have been denied.... my goodness I would be setting my dogs up for a miserable life and I just can't do that.

I REALLY hate denying people... I don't want to upset anyone but sometimes there is nothing I can do. AND IT SUCKS!

Found after 7 years!!!

I have some rescue people who don't agree with me on this subject but lately all the cases of dogs being found after year or years missing only proves my point more DO NOT KEEP FOUND DOGS!

A women in Arkansas found a young Shih Tzu, 7 years ago. She kept the dog without turning it into the the authorities or having it scanned for a micro chip. The dog got out of the women's yard and was picked up by animal control who scanned the dog and found the chip leading back to the original owner from 7 years ago! The original owner wants his dog back and the women who found the dog is upset.

The only thing I feel bad for is the dog. The poor dog has lived with the same person/family for 7 years and is now being up rooted. But at the same time if I were in the shoes of the people who lost the dog 7 years ago, I sure the hell would want my dog back.

I don't understand why people keep dogs they find. Frustrates me to no end!
