Shocking

Saturday we had an adoption event at Tractor Supply. It was a good day. A lot of dogs found homes and we met some really great people and I feel great about the dogs that were adopted.

Since we had such a great day we were easily able to rescue two new dogs. Both of them were very much in need and I am sure we were their only chance at a second chance.

The first dog was taken out of Lorain County Dog pound in Ohio. Look at the condition of this dog!

This is completely and totally due to fleas. The volunteers said that the dog looked black when he came in because there were so many fleas crawling all over his body. can you believe that?? What the hell is wrong with people? Someone clearly loved him at one time, he is neutered.

The one volunteer at the pound said that after he was treated and the fleas all died the poor dog slept for 24 hours straight. It has probably been so long since the dogs wasn't scratching and itching every second of the day.

Saturday night he was give benydral until we could get him to the vet on Monday. He was also given a medicated bath. He was given medicine at the vet office and we will continue to give him medicated baths until he is all healed and then we will place this doll up for adoption.

The promise has been made to him that NEVER AGAIN will he be treated so badly. We promised him that he will be loved and a member of someone's family very soon!

The second dog we got out was a 10 year old JRT who was picked up as a stray and NO ONE would help him because he was old. I was worried why an older dog who is neutered ended up in the pound.
Here is the funny story. He walks so slowly on the leash, in my barn and fenced in area. BUT as soon as the gate was cracked for him to get out he ran like a bat out of hell and it was 10 minutes of 3 of us running around like crazy people and me throwing my jack over him to catch him.

Oh it was something straight out of a comedy show!

Just heartbroken

I have no idea why but today I am having a hard time dealing with the death... isn't that strange, just the other day I talked about how the abuse doesn't bother me like it use to. But today I received 2 phone calls from shelters who I know only call when things get bad and I received 4 emails from 4 different shelters asking / begging for help.

THERE ARE SO MANY HOMELESS DOGS! So many are going to die this week and I am sick over it. To think that today they are breathing, eating, wagging their tails and by the weekend they will no longer exist. Why doesn't that bother anyone else? WHY???

DOGS ARE NOT MERCHANDISE! DOGS ARE NOT A WAY TO MAKE MONEY. Animals feel, animals hurt, animals breath, animals eat.... just like us stupid humans. So why is it that people are mean to animals??? I know people are mean to people as well but at least the ones who "aren't wanted" aren't killed off and put in a dumpster. At least humans can talk about what has been done to them and can hopefully get help. Animals are helpless....

so many will die this week.... that hurts, a lot.

Life is just busy

I feel bad, I don't blog like I use to. Sometimes I think maybe it is because this rescue stuff isn't new any more. When I first started in rescue the things I saw really bothered me... the abuse, the neglect but now it is like YEP saw that before. It is rare when something shocks me any more. Isn't that sad!

I have had dogs thrown from cars, dog fighting dogs, dogs that are almost starved to death, endless number of hoarder and mill dogs. I use to hold them and cry... I still hold them but I don't cry any more. I see it too much, you can't let it drain you emotionally. You have fight for the dogs and if you are so emotionally drained by the horrible things that you see you aren't going to help anyone.

I have learned too that I need to do stuff for me. I am fighting a battle that I may never see won, at least not in my life time and there will always be dogs that need saving so take that vacation, take that break, do something for me once in a while, it isn't like there won't be more dogs that need saving once I am back from vacation, done taking a break, etc.

How sad of a reality is that.

I have learned too that people are liars... not all but most and trusting them I should do with caution. I helped a lady with her 2 dogs while she was in a women't shelter. I knew deep down she was going to stiff me with the bill for her dogs. AND SHE DID! I know I should get working on trying to get that money back but at the same time what is the point. She isn't going to pay.

Like I said when the person who I thought was a good person sued ME/the rescue after re homing a dog that she didn't even own. If you can sleep at night knowing you are screwing over a non profit organization, have at it. And news flash, didn't hurt the rescue at all... always good to have lawyers as adopters :-)

Vicious Pit Bull ;-)

This is Freedom a Pit Bull rescued on December 22, 2011 by the Cleveland Police Department from a home suspected of dog fighting. Freedom was one of 27 dogs who got a chance at a life just 3 days before Christmas. On January 6, 2012 Freedom, Blossom and Cleveland were taken by me out of the Cleveland City Kennel which has to be one of the most depressing shelters I have ever been in. Cleveland is currently in a foster to adopt home, I am keeping Freedom and Blossom is in a foster home waiting for her forever home.

This picture was taken today by a friend of mine that works at American Greetings. Freedom LOVES the puppies and plays with them all the time. During the photo shoot while I was holding one of the puppies Freedom decided to sit on my lap. I scooped up the other puppies and sat them on Freedom's back. The love Freedom so much that they just hung out on him.

Excuse me but Pit Bull vicious... I think not!

HOLY BUSY

My day today started with me letting foster dogs out and feeding horses at a little before 9am. Then had to run to get my truck from the mechanic shop where I had to have my rear window wiper motor replaced for the 2nd time.. grrrr.. Plus an oil change and tires rotated.

Then ran home to load up Scout my husband's dog, Hobbes my JRT and my Pit Bull Freedom AND Hatchi a dog that I was watching for a rescue friend. I had to drop Hatchi off at her house b/c he was getting adopted and then off to an agility class. Scout and Hobbes were in the agility class and Freedom was there to see the boarding facility b/c I am going to board him there while I am on vacation.

My husband and I stopped for a quick bite to eat and then rushed home b/c I had appointments starting at 3:00.

By the time I got home there was a family already there waiting for me. Then another family showed up about 15 minutes later. Oh and when I got home everyone who has a horse at my house was pretty much there working / visiting with their horse.

Then I had another family come at 4pm to see the JRT puppies, then another family for the boxer puppies at 5 and then donations dropped off around 6. And Courtney, another girl who has a horse at my house who I am helping her work her horse showed up about 5ish too. So I was helping her while showing people puppies.

I also helped my husband do stalls, cleaned kitty litter, cleaned dog cages.... I then had to put away donations and clean up storage area and and and and.....

today was non stop all freaking day started on my feet at 8:30am and didn't stop till 9pm.

long day and tomorrow is the same.
