Gone for Two Weeks!!!

So, I am leaving tomorrow for my honeymoon TWO WEEKS. I must admit I am nervous to leave all my animals. Freaking out actually.. LOL!!

I adopted out my last to Multiple Breed Rescue puppies.. Tyson and Ridge. Tyson was in his home already but the adoption was official Tuesday. Ridge went home on Wednesday. They were so excited and I was too. They just seemed wonderful.

Oh and Molly is in her "foster home" Yea, whatever they are so keeping her.. LOL!!

That leaves me with NO Multiple Breed Rescues. I do have some JRT's in Ohio Jack Russell Rescue right now but they are well taken care of and applications are being reviewed by Andrea and Christie two of the reps. Man oh man they make life so much easier. They are on top of the dog stuff just like I am. Honestly won't be surprised by the time I come back al the JRT's we have right now aren't adopted and all new ones are in the program.. LOL!

Leaving is hard for so many reasons. Leaving my animals is the hardest part but also seeing all the emails of all the dogs that are moment away from death and knowing that I can't help right now. I mean I really shouldn't have dogs at my house because of the parvo outbreak until August / September but still. UGH!

I am so going to the pounds and getting like 10 dogs when I get back... LOL!! I am so lonely with out my dogs. They stress me out but I just love them so much.

I am excited to come home because I have 2 foster home applications. I told them both I would connect with them when I get back. I am pretty excited about that. The more foster homes the more dogs I can save!!!

Ok, well I probably will not write tomorrow so remember to educate everyone you can on the importance of adoption vs. buying and the importance of fixing your pets!

I will post as soon as I am back and let you know what dogs I am going to get from the pound :-)

Firefighter Killed Dogs Before Going on Vacation

Please send letters to the Fire Cheif you feel he should loose his job. I SURE DO!

Division Headquarters
Columbus Division of Fire
3675 Parsons Avenue
Columbus, Ohio 43207

Attorney Sam Shamansky, left, and Columbus firefighter David Santuomo appear in Municipal Court. Santuomo pleaded guilty to animal cruelty charges.
Columbus firefighter David P. Santuomo will spend 90 days in jail and pay $4,500 in restitution for shooting his two dogs in the basement of his home and wrapping their bodies in a plastic sheet.

Investigators say Santuomo, 43, of 2945 Rushbury Dr. , has admitted that he was going on a cruise with his girlfriend and didn't want to pay to board the dogs Sloopy and Skeeter even though two neighbors offered to watch the animals in his absence. At the time, he lived on Essington Drive near Dublin .

Franklin County Municipal Judge Harland H. Hale accepted guilty pleas to two counts of animal cruelty and one count of possessing a criminal tool a homemade silencer Santuomo used on the end of a rifle.

The pleas today could jeopardize Santuomo's career. He still faces an internal disciplinary hearing with Fire Chief Ned Pettus Jr. He has been a firefighter since 1996.

Assistant County Prosecutor Heather Robinson said the facts of the case are brutal:

On Dec. 3, Santuomo laid down a plastic sheet in his basement and tied the dogs to a pipe, partially suspending their bodies. He shot them multiple times, then dumped their carcasses in a trash bin behind Fire Station 27 at 7560 Smoky Row Rd. , where he was assigned.

"He later bragged about killing his pets to fellow firefighters, and he showed no remorse, even joking about it," Robinson said. "Fellow firefighters were disgusted by what he did, and the Capital Area Humane Society was called to investigate."

Hale sentenced Santuomo to 90 days in jail and ordered him to pay a $150 fine. He must have no pets or firearms in his home for five years and serve 200 hours of community service; undergo random home inspections; and pay $4,500 in restitution for the costs of the investigation to the county and the Capital Area Humane Society, from which he had adopted the dogs.

He also was ordered to write a letter of apology to a firefighters magazine and to readers of The Dispatch.

Hale said Santuomo will be permitted to serve his jail time in 10-day stints over a two-year period.

You have my dog, give it back!

Ok, I am looking for your opinion on this story.

My rescue friend was called by Henry County Dog Pound. They were full and really needed to move some dogs ASAP. They had some dogs that had been their too long and need an exit plan before they were killed. One of the dogs was a pure breed Husky. The Husky was picked up as a stray with another Husky. The other Husky was already killed but they kept alive the other one because it was a really nice dog.

The Huskies were picked up by the police at the beginning of June. June 12th is when my friend got the Husky out of the pound along with a few others that needed an exit plan.

The Husky is a very nice dog. Picked up with no tags on, just a choker chain. And like I said found with another dog that was already put to sleep by the pound.

1am Saturday June 20th my friend's house phone rings. She answers thinking something is wrong.. who calls at 1am??? "Hello" she says. On the other end of the phone is a man's voice. "I know it is late but you have my dog and I want him back!" She said, you are right it is late and hung up. She was half a sleep so didn't really realize what was going on. Not to mention, her number isn't listed anywhere so God only knows if the call was real.

The next morning she has an email from a 25 year old college student from Bowling Green who lives in an apt. above a bar, saying that the Husky is HIS DOG and he wants the dog back.

He said he has been looking everywhere for the dog. His entire family has been searching and searching for the dog. He claimed to have called Henry County and Wood County pounds and filed reports of a missing dog and Henry County was helping him locate his dog. He said he filed a police report too.

He said that dog had on a choker chain with tags and had run out the door one evening and just ran away. The dog even has a micro chip.

My friend sent the kid back an email asking a few questions like, was the other Husky that was killed his too? What day did the dog go missing? This dog was scanned and does not have a micro chip, are you sure this is your dog? ect.

The kid emailed back saying he didn't have to answer any of her questions. She needed to give him his dog back ASAP.

She explained to him that she took the dog from the pound $50, took the dog to the vet for check up, heartworm check and shots $100, wormed the dog $20 and gave him heartguard and front line $30. PLUS she has been feeding and caring for the dog since June 12th. She explained the kid woud #1 need to answer her questions and #2 reimburse her for the expenses.

He refused. He told her "I WILL GET MY DOG BACK!"

Well legally he doesn't have a leg to stand on so not sure how he thinks he is going to do that..

Anyways, my friend looked into the so called "missing dog reports" Wood County, Henry County and the police dept in the kids area, none of them EVER received a report or knew anything about a missing Husky.

The dog also DOES NOT have a micro chip.

Now my friend is upset. She doesn't want to ever TAKE some one's dog away from them but at the same time her obligation is for the well being of the dog..... a 2 year old Husky living in an apt. above a bar with a 25 year old college kid who can't seem to tell the truth to save his life is that really in the best interest of the dog?? And really is it his dog?? She really does believe it is. Apparently in March his Husky ran away and he recovered the dog at the dog pound.. which is where my friend got the dog from.

His story just doesn't add up and why won't he answer any questions like... how did the dog get loose and who was the other Husky that was put down by the pound?

So, what do you think....... let the kid have his dog back and eat the expenses? let the kid have the dog back assuming he pays her back? not let the kid have the dog back? what would you do?

HOW COULD YOU? - By Jim Willis, 2001

When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" -- but then you'd relent and roll me over for a belly rub.
My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs" you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.

Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings, and when you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" - - still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy.

Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room, or to a dog crate. Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a "prisoner of love." As they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes, investigated my ears, and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved everything about them and their touch -- because your touch was now so infrequent -- and I would've defended them with my life if need be. I would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret dreams, and together we waited for the sound of your car in the driveway.

There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered "yes" and changed the subject. I had gone from being "your dog" to "just a dog ," and you resented every expenditure on my behalf.

Now, you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family," but there was a time when I was your only family

I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said "I know you will find a good home for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. They understand the realities facing a middle-aged dog, even one with "papers." You had to pry your son's fingers loose from my collar as he screamed "No, Daddy! Please don't let them take my dog!" And I worried for him, and what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty, about love and responsibility, and about respect for all life. You gave me a good-bye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely refused to take my collar and leash with you. You had a deadline to meet and now I have one, too. After you left, the two nice ladies said you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no attempt to find me another good home. They shook their heads and asked, "How could you?"

They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you that you had changed your mind -- that this was all a bad dream... or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me.

When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited. I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table and rubbed my ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. The prisoner of love had run out of days.

As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood. She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured, "How could you?"

Perhaps because she understood my dog speak, she said, "I'm so sorry." She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself -- a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place. And with my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How could you?" was not directed at her. It was directed at you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of you. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty.

A Note from the Author: If "How Could You?" brought tears to your eyes as you read it, as it did to mine as I wrote it, it is because it is the composite story of the millions of formerly "owned" pets who die each year in American & Canadian animal shelters. Please use this to help educate, on your websites, in newsletters, on animal shelter and vet office bulletin boards. Tell the public that the decision to add a pet to the family is an important one for life, that animals deserve our love and sensible care, that finding another appropriate home for your animal is your responsibility and any local humane society or animal welfare league can offer you good advice, and that all life is precious. Please do your part to stop the killing, and encourage all spay & neuter campaigns in order to prevent unwanted animals.

Please pass this on to everyone, not to hurt them or make them sad, but it could save maybe, even one, unwanted pet. Remember...They love UNCONDITIONALLY.

Now that the tears are rolling down your face, pass it on! Send to everyone in your address book and around the world! This IS the reality of dogs given up to shelters!
****Here are some pictures of dogs that I have rescued. These are the pictures I was sent from the pound saying can I take this dog before it dies. Do they look happy to you?*****

Note from Molly's foster mom... or is it her forever mom!

Hi,

COME GET THIS DOG!!! JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that you don't have to worry about Molly while you get married and go on your honeymoon. She is fitting in here like she has always lived here. She came in and took right over. There have been a couple of protests from TJ at times, especially when she took over his spot on the bed, lol.

But they are really getting along quite well. They play, they rest, they play, they eat, they go potty, they play, they rest and it all starts all over. I do have to say though, that Molly is the champion pooper of all the dogs I have ever had, lol. She goes at least twice a day and most days three times and not little piles either, lol. We go for two walks a day, one in the morning and one in the evening after dinner and she goes both those times and maybe one other time in our yard on other outs during the day. The first morning I took them walking on two leashes, I came back with leases wrapped around up to my elbow, lol. So the next day I went to the pet store and bought an adjustable coupler and it has been a learning experience for all three us, but we get better at it each day. They beginning of the walk is always a little urgent, but as soon as she has done her thing, then she walks quite nicely. Now if I could only say the same for TJ. I'll tell you though, she is strong, if they both see a cat at the same time, I better be ready or they almost pull me off my feet.

This morning we went to the "bark park" for the first time. Molly was a little hesitant for about 20 minutes and then she got the hang of what it was all about and off she went running and playing with the other dogs. I think she really liked it.

So unless something unforeseen happens between now and when you get back from your honeymoon, like she doesn't get along with family and friends dogs in Akron, which I doubt, cause they all like to play too. I think you can count on us taking care of adopting her when you get back and she will have found her furever home!!

So I hope this gives you less thing to worry about. And Les and both hope that you have a wonderful day and a beautiful wedding and a really enjoyable honeymoon and we will be talking to you when you get back.

Stolen Dog...

Yesterday (Sunday) we were having a family cook out at my sisters house. Just a cook out to get together before my wedding and to give Dad his father's day cards since next weekend is a bit busy..LOL!!

I decided it would be fun to have Ice Cream Cake so I ran to Dairy Queen before heading to my sisters. There was a sing in Dairy Queen that read:

*Last seen Vermilion Quaker Steak Friday June 12, 2009
*No Questions asked please call ###-###-####

I don't know why I just felt I needed to call and see if I could maybe get an email for this guy so I can send out an email blast.

I spoke to him three times last night and did receive an email from him but for some reason couldn't open the attachment. I sent him back an email saying I couldn't open it and email me again.

Well I am sitting here at work and decided to give him a call to let him know the attachment didn't work.........

Let me tell the WHOLE story of this missing dog.

Butch, the owner of the yellow lab just came back from Iraq in November. This dog helped him adjust to life back here. He is married with kids but there is nothing like the therapy of a dog. Butch went fishing Friday and on his way home is wife and kids were at Quaker Steak getting something to eat. He stopped by Quaker Steak for 10 minutes just to say hi to his family. His trusted yellow lab who went fishing with him was in the bed of his truck tied up.

A few people stopped to pet the dog. One particular person being an off duty police officer and some of his off duty police officer friends and others. As they walked away a couple with a small child was petting the dog.

Butch came back out to his truck after saying hi to his family and the tail gate to his truck was down, the leash was un hooked from the dogs collar and the dog was GONE! GONE GONE GONE!

Can you only image the thoughts running through his head.. OMG!

As I told you I saw a flier on Sunday, well so did the off duty cop. The off duty cop called Butch and told him that when he left Quaker Steak that night he saw his dog and saw the couple with the child petting the dog. With a little investigation work he would be able to tell Butch who the women was and where she lived....

The cop called Butch back with information and Butch went to the people's house this morning. He told them that he was looking for his missing dog. The people said "Really, what kind of dog?" He told them that Quaker Steak had a security camera and they were the last people that were seen petting the dog. The people then said "Oh a yellow lab?" He said yea. They said the dog was in the parking lot without a collar on and they were drunk so they just took it home. Mind you they had a 5 year old with them!!!

They said "Oh yea, we have her. We just found her in the parking lot with no collar on." Butch told me he could hear them opening several doors and out comes his dog.

He said he just grabbed his dog and jumped in his truck before he did something stupid because his blood was boiling. I told him I don't blame him I would be the same way.

I asked him if he was going to press charges and said he really should! The cop that helped him find his dog said he really needs to.

I told him about my puppy smuggler incident back in March. I pressed charges. By the way they went to court last week for that..I have no idea what the outcome was...

Anyways, he said he really thinks he is going to because that is what the cop asked him to do.

1 week before the big day.

So, next week is going to be interesting! On Monday BEFORE work I am taking two dogs to the clinic to get fixed. Then after work I am going to pick up my wedding dress from the seamstress. Then Tuesday I have to drop my dresses off to be pressed. Yes, I said dresses.. I have two wedding dresses.. LOL!! One for the ceremony / pictures and one to part in..LOL!!

Anyways, then Wednesday after work I have to pick up Ridge and Tyson and drive them 1/2 way to Toledo. They are getting fixed on Thursday.

Then Thursday after work I have to pick up the other two dogs at the clinic and give them to their new owners.

Then Friday my niece has to meet my rescue partner 1/2 way to Toledo to pick up Tyson and Ridge and then take them to their foster homes.

At 10am I am getting my nails done, sometime picking up my dresses, 3pm decorating hall, 5:30 is rehearsal and7:30 is rehearsal dinner.

Then Saturday I am getting married.

Monday after work I am finalizing Tyson's adoption, Wednesday I am finalizing Ridge's adoption and then Saturday I leave for my honey moon.

LOL!!! So, really it is the next two weeks that are going to be CRAZY!!!!!

Moments away from being killed to happiness!

I love emails like this. Makes me want to go to the pound and take all the dogs out in hopes they are this lucky!

*****************************************

Hi Gloria & Amy,

I just wanted to send you an e-mail thanking you for Hanna (I actually changed her name to Stella). She is so wonderful - I can't express how happy I am to have her as part of my life!

She was a little shy at first and still needs a little adjusting to my home and to house training, but she's doing great! She's happy - she has quite a few toys already - her favorite is a blue squeaky lobster that's almost as big as she is! She loves to run around and play every night. I take her on several walks a day - we're going to visit the dog park in the morning! She's also so lovey and such a snuggler! She falls asleep in my arms like a baby every night!

Thank you both for her and for everything you do for animals - the world is a better place because of you. I knew as soon as I opened my home to her, my heart would never be the same, and that's exactly what happened - I love her so much!

I also attached some photos for you - enjoy!:)

The JRT Rodger on the left is one of my rescues... I really loved this dog. He had the best green eyes!

The JRT to the right isn't one of mine but the fuzzy one is. Oh what a tragic story with her. Perfect example of don't give your dogs away for free :-( She was used as a breeding dog for some stupid guy who got her FREE TO GOOD home and thought he could make money! UGH! I have one word for this guy and the last part ends in hole.

Who said Terriers and cats CAN NOT get a long.. yea OK!

See the heart on his head?

Jack in the background isn't one of my rescues but let me tell you this is the best home! Helen in the right of the pictures won the doggie lottery with this home! And she needed it.
